For what we have to receive ...

“So what do you want in your life right now?” A standard question I ask when interviewing new or prospective clients. This usually elicits a comprehensive list of what they DO NOT want in their lives – money trouble; relationship trouble; an unfulfilling career; being overweight and /or unfit; etc.

It is an interesting phenomenon that most people are able to tell me chapter and verse about what they don’t want in their lives but have given little or no thought to what they actually do want.

The next question elicits an equally enigmatic answer. “How long have you had this problem?” – Answers usually compare in years rather than in months.

So the big question really is – “If you know what you don’t want, and usually why you don’t want it, and you have had it troubling for so long – what have you done about it and why is it still a feature in your life?” – an embarrassed shrug, accompanied by an apologetic mumble.

There seem to be two kinds of people in the world – ‘towards’ people and ‘away from’ people. We move towards pleasure and away from pain. Most people, however are like earthworms – we move just far enough away from the pain to be bearable and just far enough towards the pleasure to exist in an ‘if-only / someday’ dream world.  Then we occupy a place in the bulge of a cosmic bell curve graph of complacency and live out our lives of quiet desperation, complaining to all around us in a pool of mutual commiseration.

Contemporary and ancient metaphysical wisdom tells us - we are what we think about all day; we attract what we continually focus on; as a Man thinketh in his heart, so it is unto him – the proverbial self-fulfilling prophecy. The magic works its spell for us efficiently, effectively and predictably.

So if it works so well for us in the negative, why not use it in the positive? What stops us from replacing what we have already identified as undesirable with something more desirable? Perhaps our conditioning about what we deserve; what is possible or our mindsets about what is realistic, our learned and accepted fears of failure; success; rejection or the unknown keeps us stuck and afraid to dare, let alone act.

The first step to having something different in our lives is to choose something different: to be able to look with discernment at what we have currently manifested in our lives, to accept what is and then to choose a replacement.  Many religions both ancient and modern, suggest gratitude, not only for what we already have, but for what we are about to have.

To HAVE success, we must first BE success, then we must DO what is necessary to manifest that success. We must act with the expectation and anticipation of manifesting that success – whatever it may mean to you.

Are you working the magic in the negative or the positive? How is that working for you…
