The blessing of broken pieces
Mon 17 Aug 2009, 10:44 2 Comment(s) Report AbuseHave you ever tried to repair a glass vase or something equally precious that had fallen and smashed on the floor? Those hundreds of bits and pieces form an almost impossible puzzle and it is only through hours of patience and determination that you can almost repair the vessel. Once repaired, it is never the same as it was before. Water leaks through the cracks, edges are rough and uneven. This is because you are trying to restore the broken item to its original state – which is impossible. The good news is that with a little creativity you can do so much more!
Each little piece, when examined alone is seen for its own unique beauty. Together they can be used to build a new work of art, different to the first. I’ve seen beautiful art works where bits of glass were used to make mosaics, collages, mirrors, picture frames, and much more. Who could even tell what their original purpose had been? Would I have been that impressed with the glass chip when it was still part of a plate or window? Yet I marveled at its beauty as it hung proudly on a gallery wall.
In the past few years, I’ve had to pick up the pieces of a shattered life and recover from a divorce and other hardships. One by one I held broken pieces up to the light, trying to figure out where they belonged. Turning them this way and that, I struggled to fit them back into their original places to restore the person I once had been. Every now and then I’d spot a glint of sunlight reflecting off a sharp shard and I’d throw it away. Then at times, I’d find a piece that was different and I’d realize that this little piece was lovely. After almost two years of fruitless effort, I’ve come to the realization that the person I once had been can never be restored to her original state. But God has blessed me with a unique opportunity to take all these lovely little pieces and to build someone new. Little bits and pieces of me, that were invisible in the past, are now given a chance to shine.
It is painful to have your life shattered and it may seem impossible to pick up those pieces. Sometimes we don’t even know where to start. Any form of repair and reconstruction is a long process. But friend, know that it is also an opportunity to re-invent yourself to become the person you would like to be. It is a unique opportunity to look closely at the beautiful bits of you. To hold them up to the light and appreciate the way they shine. Don’t waste time trying to rebuild the past, rather appreciate this wonderful gift and build a whole new future! One that you would proudly hang on a gallery wall.
Keep smiling!

Long time no read
Thu 4 Jun 2009, 10:51 3 Comment(s) Report AbuseI can't believe how long it has been since I last posted on this blog. This year has been so hectic and my life has changed so dramatically that I've not had much time to do any of the fun stuff - like blogging. But six months down the line, (half a year already!), I can almost come up for air. I've really missed everyone and thank you so much for the contacts and messages. My other blog, www.cellfhelp.co.za is also feeling rather neglected.
So June is here and with it so many changes... I started a new job on the 1st, start my MBA on the 17th and have my first of many quarterly trips to California from 21st. Plus it's my mom, brother, sister and son's birthdays this month. Not to mention extended family occasions. So JUNE is one of those YIKES! months. And in typical blonde1 fashion, I've bitten off more than an elephant could chew with the new job and studies - so here's to Prozac, insomnia and good red wine! We'll have to see whether the posts get more and more irrational as the time goes on and my nerves start to fray.
Take care and keep smiling!
Love

I made it!
Wed 10 Dec 2008, 09:41 5 Comment(s) Report AbuseYesterday I had my interview with the admissions board of Stellenbosch University Business School and it went so well that by the time I got home, there was an email waiting that confirmed - I've been accepted into the MBA programme for next year! Woooooooooo hooooooooooo!
I just really want to thank you all for your kind wishes and prayers. God is so good! I feel so blessed.
I'm also really grateful that the fact that I found out the good news the night before my two boys leave for Chicago for 2 weeks. We celebrated with "kids' Champaign" (ie: Monis Grapetizer) last night. Today they leave for a white Christmas (they have NO IDEA of how cold it is there - poor things).
Now I'm looking forward to two weeks with no little boys, no homework or studying... what am I to do?
Well, thanks again my friends,
God bless,
Keep smiling,
Love BOne.

No peeping!
Fri 5 Dec 2008, 16:49 4 Comment(s) Report AbuseLast night, at the prize giving at my oldest son's school, Young Eagles Christian Academy, I was the unofficial photographer (being the trigger happy photographer I am...). Anyway, we were saying a prayer and I looked down and caught my youngest son, Kyle, peeking. It was so cute I had to take a shot.
Now the dillema is - if I show it to him, he'll know that Mommy was peeking too!!
Have a wonderful weekend all!
Keep smiling,
Love BOne.

Eureeeka I did it!!
Wed 3 Dec 2008, 15:54 4 Comment(s) Report AbuseThis morning was such an awesome day!! I graduated from University of Stellenbosch Business School (even though it was just a 3-month Management Development Programme) with 4 distinctions, top team and Director's Award for Top Student!
But best of all is that I took my son with me (as camera man) to show him that you are NEVER too old for school. I introduced him to my fellow students and he met Natalie du Toit (the keynote speaker). I'm hoping that he comes away with a newfound respect and appreciation of his opportunities in life. I hope that he realises what a priviledge it is to get an education and I hope he realises that regardless of your dream - you can achieve it if you have the courage to pursue it.
Thanks for all your encouragement!! Now I'm holding thumbs that I get into the MBA programme next year! That would be another dream come true!
God bless and keep smiling!
Love BOne.
