This week people called in to Cape Talk to speak about the sudden and unanounced change in train schedules from Retreat to Simon's Town.

Workers were stranded because there were no trains home for them and those that worked late shifts had no means to get to work.

Even the 'bosses' called in.

METRO RAIL responded and said that they were doing maitenance in readiness for 2010 and that this was the only time that they could perform this necessary task. They were also unaware that many workers relied on the transport over weekends.

With regards to holiday-makers and beach-goers from other areas wanting to access the beaches the response was simple: there would be no trains and no alternative transport arrangements by METRO RAIL

This being South Africa and Cape Town and Muizenberg being marketed as an improved holiday / recreational area and a tourist destination, that funny thought about 'purging' crept into my head; in fact hit me hard in the gut.

I love taking the train to Muizenberg. I have several hundred photos of the beach and its moods. Now I will not be able to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon at the beach because there will be no transport home!!

But all those kids from the Townships won't be able to either and the familiies that counted on the holiday beach picnics to take those Township-trapped children out won't be able to either.

Really it sounds like a cleansing process to me!!
