Energy firms overcharge D/D payments

The electric and gas regulator for the United Kingdom has claimed Ofgem has claimed that energy companies are failing to clearly explain direct debit demands to their customers.

It showed that direct debit customers are paying more than they need - to their bills, although they are getting their money back at some point but in the meantime are giving their energy suppliers free loans, this is totally unacceptable; once again the big corporation are lining their pockets whist customers struggle to pay their bills.

There is no evidence of systematically over-collecting; it still is the cheapest way to pay your energy bills by spreading out the cost over a year and helps families who struggled to pay their bills in quarterly lump sums, some customers said they are happy to use it as a sort of savings account but it clearly does not go down well with most customers and regulators.

Nuclear Power - cheap electricity ?

Nuclear Power

Should we or should we not?

With the world eating up nearly all our planets available fossil fuel reserves and with soaring gas and oil costs - our governments are scratching their heads at the thought of trying to power our countries in the generations ahead.

The United Kingdom uses almost 20% of nuclear energy for its electricity and with only one nuclear reactor going to pass the year 2023 government officials are backing a new generation of nuclear power stations to power our nation, it is not the easiest discission to be made but with the benefits being environmental friendly and will supply the UK with cheap electricity for decades to come - with the new technology being used.

Our country has not built a nuclear power station for over 28 years due to nuclear waste issues, spiraling decommissioning costs and accidents, but with the carbon emission targets and the threat of global warming looming the government has little or no choice but to act fast.

Could this have an effect on UK energy prices

Thu 31 Jan 2008, 17:26        0 Comment(s)     Report Abuse
UK government has won a commons vote to enter into the EU's energy policy; this will allow the EU to speak as one and for every member state in Europe to have one single energy policy.

However this would mean if one member state had energy supply issues that it could lead to the UK having to supplement that member state.

This could potentially cause energy providers to increase the price of energy due to supply and demand. The full report can be read here.

UK Energy News is now available on the BlogCatalog Energy and Environment category.

A blow to the Scottish green power effort

Tue 29 Jan 2008, 14:38        0 Comment(s)     Report Abuse
Locals of Lewis, bombarded the Scottish Executive2 with 5000 letters causing the Executive to intervene and block the proposed 181 wind energy turbines. The grounds for protest where that of social-economic ruin and endangering local wild life.

Although the argument against the wind farms is slight and not back by empirical evidence one this is for sure, if this decision is to stand then other projects like this will find it difficult to succeed. Wind turbines are not the prettiest thing in the world however the provide a safe renewable source of energy, which is a fair sacrifice.
